The Scroll ensemble is a unique collective of experts in the field of historical improvisation, and one of the only ensembles in the world focusing on ensemble improvisation- arguably one of the most important aspects of early music. In the past improvisation was just as important as it is now in jazz. The Scroll Ensemble puts this lost art on the stage, resulting in a direct and lively communication with each other and the audience. The Ensemble has performed for Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands, in Leipzig Improvisation Festivals 2011 and 2013, will be providing music for the Roel Reine directed movie about Michiel de Ruyter and was heard on Dutch radio 4 with writer Guus Kuijer during Festival Classique in The Hague. Members teach improvisation workshops in conservatoires including Den Haag, Katowice, and Bydgoszcz. The Scroll Ensemble’s eager love for improvisation has brought to fruition many collaborations with theatre directors, dancers and jazz musicians. It is their hope to inspire a little creativity in each and everybody.
